UPDATE:

Starz’ hotly promoted new drama, “Outlander,” based on the best-selling novel by Diana Gabaldon, attracted a total of 3.7 million viewers over multiple platforms and multiple airings.

“Outlander’s” official premiere was Saturday, Aug. 9 at 9 p.m., but Starz had offered subscribers a sneak-peek on the prior Saturday (Aug. 2), as well as making episode one available via YouTube, the Starz Play app and Starz On Demand.

Parsing those numbers, the actual Saturday night premiere drew roughly 720,000 viewers, followed by three more airings over the weekend. After adding up all of those airings, the drama received about 2.3 million viewers for its premiere weekend. Viewers who tuned into the sneak peek or watched via YouTube or other platform added another approximately 1.4 million viewers.

Those numbers are on par with January’s premiere of “Black Sails,” Starz’s highest-rated new series premiere, which earned 850,000 viewers for the first showing of its premiere episode.

Overall, Starz has seriously ramped up both its production and its promotion, using every weapon in its arsenal to bring viewers to its shows, including “Power,” which attracted nearly two million viewers over its June opening weekend.
