On the 40th anniversary of Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez winning the Nobel Prize in literature, Netflix dropped a teaser about turning Marquez acclaimed novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, into a TV series.
The teaser, above, shows the crew preparing the model of the peaceful Colombian town of Macondo, which has not been in contact with the outside world for 100 years. The novel follows several generations of the Buendía family, who founded the village.
José Rivera (Motorcycle Diaries) will write the series with Colombian screenwriters Natalia Santa, Camila Brugés and Albatros González, with Alex García López (The Witcher) and Laura Mora (Killing Jesus) to direct the first season.
In addition, Dynamo’s Diego Ramírez Schrempp and Carolina Caicedo will produce with Josep Amorós.
Netflix is developing the project in cooperation with García Márquez’s children Rodrigo García and Gonzalo García.
No release date has been set yet.
