AMC will launch the second entry in its Anne Rice Immortal Universe in January, with The White Lotus’ Alexandra Daddario starring as Dr. Rowan Mayfair in Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.
Based on Rice’s best-selling trilogy, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the eight-episode series focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon (Daddario), who discovers that she is next in line in a family with a long heritage of witchcraft and who is guided by a spirit named Lasher. While Rowan grapples with her newfound powers, she must also grapple with a dark presence that has haunted her family for generations.
The Lives of the Mayfair Witches is composed of three titles: The Witching Hour, Lasher and Taltos. They were published by Rice in the ‘90s and preceded her Vampire Chronicles series, which included Lestat and Louis who are the subjects of another series currently airing on AMC and AMC Plus: Interview with the Vampire. Some of the Mayfair witches appeared in the Vampire Chronicles; it remains to be seen if this will be true in the TV shows as well.
Besides Daddario, the series also stars Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa and Harry Hamlin. It’s executive produced by Mark Johnson and showrun by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford.
The panel, which featured Executive Producers Mark Johnson, Showrunner Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, and cast members Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa and Harry Hamlin, included the debut of the series’ first official trailer and announced the show’s premiere date.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches premieres January 8 on AMC and AMC Plus.
