NBC News Digital Group, responsible for the video content for web brands like NBCNews.com, tv.msnbc.com, iVillage and TODAY.com, launched a new group today called the Original Video Unit to make even more video for its many platforms.
The Unit will serve as NBC News Digital’s in-house production office, primarily building on branded videos and focusing on video series across multiple platforms to appeal to news junkies on laptops, tablets and smartphones alike. The team will be led by former Slate V executive producer Bill Smee.
The new branded series and video projects will feature NBC faces and will stay consistent with the NBC News brand, but the Unit plans to offer more options for audiences to get their content.
This news comes one week after NBC News acquired the video service Stringwire, allowing their audiences to get more involved with unfolding events as well as providing more video content to NBC’s many web destinations.
