This was the week of Sharknado 3, what else do you need to know?
SyFy’s Sharknado 3 first created a shark-infested social storm and then followed that up by winning Twitter. On Wednesday, July 22, Sharknado 3 was the night’s top trending topic, with 360,000 related tweets reaching an audience of 4.5 million and creating some 2 billion impressions. On YouTube, clips of the film were viewed more than 6 million times.

Meanwhile, a real shark storm/sort-of attack was happening in South Africa, where people very stupidly held a surfing contest in the middle of a Great White-infested sardine swim. Surprise, surprise, Australian surfer Mick Fanning had a run-in with a Great White, but brushed it off with a lick of his surfboard’s leash.

In the week’s very rare piece of non-shark-related news, Stephen Colbert is dying to get back on TV. For now all he has is YouTube so why not join him there?

And UFC, with the help of Troika, rebranded, softening up its logo but not its content.

Before you head off to the beach or the mountains, here’s a Hot Spot to keep you dancing all weekend long.
