The History Channel takes viewers back in time to some of history’s most expansive societies in its three-night event series, Ancient Empires.

Each night will look at the ancient world through the eyes of one of the leaders who transformed it: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. Each episode chronicles that ruler’s rise to influence and their decline and eventual fall from power.

The series will both dramatize the events in question using narrative sequences and premium battle scenes, but it will also draw from expert interviews and contemporary scholarship to tell the stories. Experts who appear in the series include Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer and historian Stacy Schiff, retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal, former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO General Wesley Clark, retired Major General Marcia Anderson, and classicist and Cleopatra expert Dr. Shelley Haley, among others.

Ancient Empires is produced by Ample Entertainment in association with GroupM Motion Entertainment. Ari Mark, Phil Lott and Joey Allen serve as executive producers for Ample Entertainment. Richard Foster and Chet Fenster serve as executive producers for GroupM Motion Entertainment. Roel Reine serves as director for the series. Eli Lehrer, Mary E. Donahue and Jennifer Wagman are executive producers for The History Channel.

The three-night event airs Monday, September 4; Tuesday, September 5 and Wednesday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
