Judd Apatow executive produces this two-part documentary, The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling, about his famous friend and mentor who passed away in 2016.
The film features interviews with such celebrities and comics as James L. Brooks, Jim Carrey, Sacha Baron Cohen, David Coulier, Jon Favreau, Jay Leno, Kevin Nealon, Conan O’Brien, Bob Saget, Jerry Seinfeld and Sarah Silverman, along with four decades of television appearances.
It also draws from Shandling’s personal journals, private letters and candid home audio and video that reveals the comic’s brilliant mind and restless soul.
“He turned to Buddhism but it’s not because he’s zen,” says Silverman in the trailer. “It’s because he was in desperate need of being zen.”
The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling debuts March 26 and 27 on HBO.
