To convey what a true 4K gaming experience looks and feels like, creative agency Blind used the concept of “pixel threading” to create a promo designed to capture the power of the new Xbox One X gaming console.
The 4K world premiere film opened the Xbox E3 2017 Briefing. Blind worked with Microsoft and Ayzenberg for a spot that uses high-fidelity imagery showing pixels bursting from the console’s core, then being tightly woven together to create rich visual sequences with iconic game characters reimagined.
The agency worked with Microsoft Industrial Design Team to get every detail of the console correct, then brought in live action director Michael Chaves and a green screen to create a CG world that involved blending particle simulations on top of character animations, using a distinct aesthetic to visualize each IP.
“This was unlike anything we’ve ever done before at Blind,” Creative Director Matthew Encina says. “We had to build a skilled team of specialists to experiment with various techniques. We went through test after test until we developed the correct particle systems that made up the unique visual language of the film.”
