On Jan. 20, Discovery launches its first scripted miniseries, “Klondike,” which will take a theme that has proven successful for the network in the past and try to see if can cross over into drama territory.
The network has had reality series related to the gold rush before (“Gold Rush,” “Gold Fever,” “Bering Sea Gold”) and is adapting a book for its foray into scripted series. Based on Charlotte Gray’s “Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike,” the miniseries takes place during the 1890s gold rush where young hopefuls set out to strike it rich.
The extended sneak peek (above) released today tells the story of men moving to Dawson City, an exciting place to be in the height of the gold rush era, where their journey gets interrupted by new friends and newer enemies.
“Klondike,” starring Richard Madden, Abbie Cornish and Tim Roth, debuts Jan. 20 at 9 p.m.
