After last year’s success with miniseries “Under the Dome,” CBS is choosing to take a similar path when it comes to streaming upcoming Halle Berry series “Extant.” The new mystery series, “Extant,” a co-production of CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television, stars Berry as as an astronaut returning from a year in space.
The streaming deal makes Amazon’s Prime Instant Video the exclusive home for premium subscribers to view the show, with each episode available to stream on the site four days after they’re originally broadcast on-air on CBS. Episodes will also be available for purchase via Amazon Instant Video. The model follows last summer’s highly rated series “Under the Dome,” which averaged 15 million viewers on CBS from June-September 2013.
Members of Amazon Prime will be able to download episodes on compatible devices like the Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation and the Wii.
“Extant,” starring Halle Berry and produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, will premiere on CBS in June 2014.
Brief Take: Like last year’s “Under the Dome,” CBS is pinning its 2014 hopes on “Extant” to garner summer ratings and keep viewers tuned in to the network while its other series are on hiatus.
