Stephen Colbert’s takeover of CBS’ The Late Show is beginning in earnest!

Colbert and his crew have begun prepping for the show’s Sept. 8 debut with a podcast, but Colbert also took to YouTube on Thursday to announce his band leader, Jon Batiste, and to shave his famous Colbeard.

Colbert and the show’s writers launched The Late Show Podcast with its first episode, “In The Bad Room with Stephen,” a nod to the group’s temporary, windowless office. The podcast covers the crew’s writing strategy, but also logistics of bringing over his crew from The Colbert Report and reimagining his comedy for a CBS format. “That is the true joy of comedy,” says Colbert in the epiosde, “is figuring out how much money I have for the backup electrical system.”

Mostly, the writers are focused now on formulating Colbert’s new image and shedding his faux-conservative pundit personality for a character that is purely Colbert.

Colbert also made a five-minute video entitled “The Colbeard,” in which he shaves off the famous facial hair and reminisces about their time together.

It’s also important to note that during this video, a white board with his to-do list is visible in the background called “Show needs:” The list includes catering, fryer, things to say more things to say, other things to say and “fix face.”

On his new YouTube channel, Colbert introduced his new band leader, Jon Batiste, in a beignet-filled hello from New Orleans where Batiste could show off his skills.

Stephen Colbert, host of THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, announced masterful musician Jon Batiste is joining him on CBS’s new late night program as the show’s bandleader.
