Since premiering three years ago, “Piers Morgan Live” has faced its share of hiccups, including ratings woes and a disconnect between Morgan and CNN’s viewers. Showing signs of a larger network shakeup, CNN and head Jeff Zucker have confirmed that Morgan’s primetime news show will end this year.
As announced this morning, the final airdate has not been decided but CNN will likely end the show sometime next month. According to The New York Times, Morgan’s 9:00 p.m. timeslot has seen low ratings since Larry King’s exit three years ago, only gaining 1% in total viewers from 2012 to 2013 with viewers averaging around 590,000. Morgan added that his own view on gun control was part of the issue, which divided American viewers.
“I think I can credibly do news and the ratings reflect that, but it is not really the show that I set out to do,” said Morgan.
No decisions have been made yet as to what will replace “Piers Morgan Live” in the timeslot.

Brief Take: This is a sign of larger things to come at CNN, according to Zucker, who plans more rearranging of talent and some primetime changes in the coming year.
