The Hollywood Reporter assessed the more than a dozen upfront presentations that occurred last week, ranging from CBS to The CW.

Overall, the reception of actual programming announcements was rather lukewarm, according to THR, with post-presentation conversations instead focusing on the shifting landscape of television—namely, the erosion of the traditional broadcast schedule thanks to DVR, the summer high season of cable, and binge-viewing via streaming. Several networks unveiled scheduling formats that vary from the typical 22-episode arc, including Fox with its planned limited spring rehash of “24,” and NBC, which will present 15 episodes of “Hostages” in the fall.

But beyond trying to emulate cable in certain ways, the major networks made sure to also stress how much they continue to crush it. Check out a full wrap-up of the 2013 Upfronts at The Hollywood Reporter.
