Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles as Daniel LaRuss and Johnny Lawrence from the 1984 film Karate Kid as YouTube Red dropped a first trailer for its sequel series Cobra Kai.

More than 30 years later, the two karate masters with very different philosophies are still rivals as Zabka’s Johnny plans to reopen the dojo where viewers last watched them face off in the All Valley Karate Tournament.

“We’re not training to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak,” he says of the studio’s principals in the trailer, as he takes bullied high school student Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña, Parenthood) under his wing.

Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) also stars as Johnny’s son Robby Keene, who wants to be nothing like his father, and guest-star Ed Asner plays Johnny’s stepfather Sid Weinberg.

Meanwhile, Daniel—grown up from his days as a bullied high school student and living a successful life as a family man and car dealer—still holds on to his late sensei Mr. Miyagi’s wisdom.

“You may know the moves but none of that matters unless you have balance,” he says in the trailer.

Courtney Henggeler (Mom) plays Daniel’s wife and business partner Amanda, with Mary Mouser (Freakish) as their daughter Samantha.

The trailer ends with Johnny and Daniel stepping back into the Cobra Kai dojo.

“Johnny, you and I, this, we aren’t done,” Daniel says.

Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg from Harold & Kumar, who also direct. Executive producers also include Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett.

The series will debut on YouTube Red in 2018.
