Scripps-owned WMAR ABC2 in Baltimore took the covers off a brand new set on Monday, debuting a state-of-the-art “digital news center” studio that aims for an interactive, yet approachable look.

Park Place Studios worked with Scripps on the new set, which includes 49 monitors for news story presentation, and a 400-square foot social media center, alongside a new “Storm Watch” area with 10 weather team workstations.

The ABC2 News weather team will use the new set to showcase an upgraded weather product featuring the WSI Max System, which boasts “the most advanced sets of weather data, production tools, and visualization features for any forecast platform ever created,” according to the station.

The upgraded on-air look comes as the station celebrates the one-year anniversary of its original series In Focus. Last year, WMAR decided to end its traditional 6pm newscast and hand the time slot over to a program focused on in-depth reporting and investigations.

“It’s a great week for Baltimore area news viewers,” said Bill Hoope, WMAR VP and GM. “Between the launch of our new set, an upgraded weather system, and original endeavors like In Focus, WMAR ABC2 continues to set itself apart from the other stations in the market.”
