Less than a week away from the Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber, the network has partnered with the new app Whipclip in order to create and share memorable TV moments from the Roast and beyond.
The free mobile app, available now, allows fans to create customized video clips from television content and share them via social media - legally.
Whipclip partnered with Comedy Central on launch day for its upcoming Roast, where viewers of the event on March 30 can watch and share clips in real time.
Whipclip’s Co-Founder and CEO, Richard Rosenblatt, says the idea for Whipclip came to him when he tried to send the now-famous clip of Richard Sherman’s post-game rant to his son but couldn’t find an easy way to immediately do so. He calls this app a solution to that problem, “a product that lets viewers discover and share their favorite content, and also respects the rights of the content owner.”
The app has several broadcast partners for its venture, including Comedy Central, ABC, CBS, Fox, VH1, A&E and Lifetime, Bloomberg, OWN and truTV. Whip clip has also partnerships with Universal Music Group and Sony Music to search, share and clip music from popular music videos.

The app lets TV fans clip certain TV shows (live or past episodes), find past moments on TV by searching for a scene or quote and share customized clips with friends or social networks. For example, Justin Bieber posted an impressive performance by Will Ferrell on CBS’ Late Late Show with James Corden:
“The days of awkwardly holding your phone up to the TV to record and share your favorite moments may be coming to an end,” said Rosenblatt.
