With the L.A. Screenings wrapped up for another year, the television studios are counting their wins, with Sony Pictures Television’s trio of “Battle Creek,” “Marry Me,” and “Outlander” among the early series picking up international deals.

The annual L.A. Screenings week is a chance for international buyers to get a taste of the upcoming television series and make deals for global linear and digital rights—a big source of financing for television production.

Among the pickups already announced:

  • “Battle Creek” to Australia’s Seven.
  • “Marry Me” to Seven and Shaw Media in Canada.
  • Outlander” to Seven.
  • “Wayward Pines” to France’s Canal Plus.

Variety reports that CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” CBS’ “Extant” and ABC’s “The Whispers” and “How to Get Away with Murder” are generating lots of buzz and interest, but no deals have been announced yet.

Traditionally, comedies have been harder to sell to overseas buyers, so the studios have used top talent, such as Kate Walsh (“Bad Judge”) and Matthew Perry (“Odd Couple”) to charm their checkbooks open.
