October is spooky season and toward the end of the month, viewers encounter the most terrifying thing of all: no, it’s not Halloween, it’s that the Christmas movies start up on cable.
AMC Plus’s take on Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire, starring Game of Thrones’ Jacob Anderson, kicks off the month and more scares are in store with Netflix’s The Watcher and Showtime’s Let the Right One In. An entirely different type of fear is acted out with the return of HBO’s Emmy-winning The White Lotus, starring Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza, concludes it.

October 2: AMC’s Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire (series premiere)
Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) are Lestat and Louis in AMC’s adaptation of the Anne Rice vampire classic set in New Orleans.
October 2: CBS’ East New York (series premiere)
Regina Haywood is the newly promoted deputy inspector of East New York, a working-class neighborhood at the eastern edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to deploy her creative methods of serving and protecting during the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.
October 6: ABC’s Alaska Daily (series premiere)
Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank stars as a disgraced big-city journalist who moves to Anchorage, Alaska to start over.
October 7: CBS’ Fire Country (series premiere)
Seal Team’s Max Thierot stars as Bode, a California inmate who, as part of a prison release program, is dispatched to fight fires in his rural home town, and soon finds that he also has to fight the demons from his past.
Netflix’s The Midnight Club (series premiere)
October 9: Showtime’s Let the Right One In (series premiere)
Based on the 2008 Swedish movie of the same name, Showtime’s new vampire series stars Demian Bichir as the struggling single parent of teenage vampire Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez). The series also stars Anika Noni Rose, Kevin Carrol, Mamie Gummer and Nick Stahl.
October 13: Netflix’s The Watcher
Not to be confused with The Witcher, this series from Ryan Murphy stars Bobby Cannavale and Naomi Watts as a couple who buys their dream house only to discover it’s a nightmare.
October 14: Apple TV Plus’ Shantaram
Charlie Hunnam (Justified) is escaped convict Lin Ford, who flees to 1980s Bombay to find a new life and ends up finding unexpected love, connection and courage on his road to redemption.
October 19: Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil
Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington are two high-style witches trying to shape young lives in this movie adapted from the best-selling book.
October 25: Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities
October 26: Disney Plus’ Tales of the Jedi
October 30: HBO’s The White Lotus (season-two premiere)
