Watching TV during the holidays is mostly about comfort and nostalgia – hence lots of reruns of Elf and A Christmas Story or of bundling up on the couch, pouring a glass or three of wine and taking in a few hopelessly romantic Hallmark or Lifetime holiday movies.

This year, there are also celebrity specials from the likes of Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, Barry Manilow, Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson, and holiday takes on favorite series, such as Netflix’s The Great British Baking Show’s holiday edition and Fox’s The Masked Singer Holiday Sing-a-Long.

Month-long holiday programming events can be found on multiple cable networks, including Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, Lifetime’s It’s a Wonderful Lifetime, Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas, AMC’s Best Christmas Ever, TNT and TBS’ Winter Break and Great American Family’s Great American Christmas. Streaming services – including Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, Netflix, BET Plus and more – also have been getting into the holiday act with original movies and specials of their own.
