On the heels of original drama “Salem,” WGN America is launching a new series this summer that pushes a bit ahead in time but keeps with the historical theme.

“Manhattan,” launching Sunday, July 27, takes place in 1940s New Mexico, where a team of scientists and researchers work to create the world’s first ever atomic bomb, while their families sit home in the dark, wondering about their very town that has to remain in shadow. The series focuses on the web of secrets held close to the chest by the military, the scientists and their families, and the difficulties that presents in a time of war.

“Manhattan” was created by “Masters of Sex’s” Sam Shaw.
