Jeff Wachtel, who prior to this was co-president of USA Network, has been promoted to the newly created position of president and chief content officer of NBCU Cable Entertainment. Wachtel, a 12-year veteran of USA, will report to NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group Chair Bonnie Hammer, and will oversee creative for the company’s 12 networks. Wachtel also will be responsible for NBCU Cable Entertainment’s production entities, including both scripted and unscripted programming.

Wachtel helped establish USA as basic cable’s top-rated network by aggressively programming original dramas. This fall, USA Network will premiere Twentieth’s Modern Family as part of its bid to move into original comedy.

Chris McCumber, who shared the co-president title with Wachtel, now will be sole president of the cable network. He has been USA’s co-president since 2011.
