Turner Broadcasting’s Wednesday morning upfront highlighted a need for edgier content on the TNT screen, hence a new branding strategy: Boom.

The tagline reflects what TNT sees as its new direction - more explosions, more excitement, more specificity.

“We want to get a little younger, more duel and noisier,” said TNT’s Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM, adding that the network’s audience recently has skewed older and more broadly.

The brand refresh, with its tagline “TNT Drama. Boom” (replacing “We Know Drama”), also describes the network’s upcoming dramas.

“‘Boom’ speaks to the experience we want to deliver to TNT viewers,” said Wright. “Most importantly, ‘Boom’ makes a promise to our audience about the kind of emotional, intense, exciting, funny, shocking, sexy and thrilling drama they should expect from TNT.”

This year will see adventure drama “The Last Ship” and mystery series “Murder in the First,” with the addition of four new drama series next year: “Public Morals,” “Transporter: The Series,” “The Librarians” and “Proof.” Trailers have been released for the four series set to debut this fall through next year.

Wright stressed TNT’s aggressive strategy is intended to deliver its next big hit, with an eye toward attracting more of the coveted 18-49 demographic. He added that he wants TNT viewers to expect a cinematic experience when watching the net’s new dramas.

On the lighter side at TBS, Conan O’Brien has re-upped his contract through 2018, staying in his late-night timeslot and continuing to bring one of late-night’s youngest audiences to the Turner net.

TBS also released trailers for its three upcoming comedies “Angie Tribeca,” “Buzzy’s” and “Your Family or Mine.” “Angie Tribeca” comes from Steve Carell about a cop in the LAPD that stars Rashida Jones, “Buzzy’s” is a community barbershop comedy with Ashley Tisdale and “Your Family or Mine,” according to TBS, “centers on a different side of a young couple’s family each week.”
