Following the success of its Sunday mainstay, “Once Upon a Time,” ABC is looking to extend its Disney-branded characters and properties across the week for the 2013-2014 season, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
At its Upfront on Tuesday, ABC announced it will launch its two surest new shows, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and the spinoff “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” in two of its most troubled slots. “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” directed by Joss Whedon, will open in the Tuesday 9:00 p.m. slot while “Wonderland” will launch in the Thursday 8:00 p.m. slot, where ABC hasn’t had a winning hit since before the writers’ strike. Both shows are culled from the Disney universe.
ABC also said it would become yet another major broadcast network to dabble in a cable-like programming schedule, splitting the 24 episodes of “Once Upon a Time” and “Grey’s Anatomy” into two uninterrupted 12-episode batches airing on either half of the season.
