Universal Pictures availed itself of the NBA Playoffs to promote two of its upcoming summer movies – Jurassic World: Dominion and Nope – with bespoke spots.

In the below spot for Jurassic World: Dominion, Toronto Raptors’ Rookie of the Year Scottie Barns is chastised by former NBA player and ESPN host Richard “RJ” Jefferson when he says he keeps seeing dinosaurs in the ESPN office.

“You know, I can hear you rookie,” says Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who celebrated his 75th birthday on April 16, the day the “This is Sports Center”-inspired spot premiered across social, digital and linear networks.

“Yo bro, you can’t talk about Kareem like that. He’s one of the greatest of all time. Show some respect,” Jefferson says.

“I mean like dinosaur dinosaurs,” Barns says, confused, glancing over to see a velociraptor wandering through the office.

“Yeah, uh, nobody believed me either,” says Jeff Goldblum in a cameo appearance.

Jurassic World: Dominion stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, reteaming them with the stars of the original film: Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Goldblum. The movie premieres in theaters on June 10.

Also during the playoffs, Universal Pictures debuted the below spot for Jordan Peele’s Nope, starring Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry and inspired by the film’s official trailer. While shooting some baskets in a barn, Curry sees the wind pick up and a shadow pass over.

“Nope,” he says as he gets out of there in a hurry.

The custom Nope spot was conceived by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and directed by Kwaku Alston. It debuted during ABC and ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Playoffs, starting with the Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets game on Saturday, April 16. The spot first aired during the pre-game show, NBA Countdown.

Nope, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer, premieres in theaters on July 22. It co-stars Michael Wincott and Brandon Perea. It’s written and directed by Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper and Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.
