FX released a behind-the-scenes featurette breaking down the unique kind of love the characters share in season-one of the Marvel-universe series Legion.
The three-minute clip, titled “Uncanny Romance,” features interviews from series creator Noah Hawley and actress Rachel Stevens, who plays Syd Barrett, a street-wise mutant that becomes the girlfriend of David Haller (Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens). “It feels like almost a new way to tell a love story,” says Stevens. “What does it mean to love someone and how do you express that?”
Actors Amber Midthunder, who plays Kerry Loudermilk, and Bill Irwin, who plays Kerry’s apparent alter ego Cary Loudermilk also touch on their unconventional kind of romance in the clip. The actors break down what love, friendship and romance looks like to the two characters in the narrative of Legion.
The series also stars Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris and Katie Aselton.
Based on the Marvel comics character Legion, David Haller (the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier) has struggled with mental illness since adolescence. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley is the creator of the series, which is a co-production of Marvel Television and FX Productions.
