Platige Image is the studio behind the cinematic trailer for Ubisoft’s Watch_Dogs 2, a stunning cyberpunk adventure just over 2 minutes long, which contains more than 110 scenes set in virtual San Francisco.

The Warsaw, Poland-based studio recently unveiled a two-minute featurette that goes behind the scenes of the making of the trailer, from its early concept, through the development, to the final cut. Crew members interviewed in the clip include TVC director Damian Nenow and CG supervisor Tomasz Sawinski.

City footage used in the trailer was recorded by actual people on the streets of San Francisco with personal smartphones or pulled from CCTV. The footage includes shots of the Golden Gate bridge, bike messengers and even homeless people.

“The shots were pulled from different stories, taken out of their contexts, found media footage-style,” says trailer director Damian Nenow. “It’s a visual collage of different clips stylized to resemble footage found on YouTube.”

“The teaser doesn’t feature any epic action sequences,” Nenow says later on in the clip, “there’s no main character—our cinematic is focused on the world as it’s seen by the different characters: hackers, young people, hipsters, anarchists, and so on.”
