Twitter plans to live stream CBSN’s coverage from the Republican and Democratic National Conventions through a new deal inked with CBS News.
The partnership means viewers will be able to watch the broadcast for free, with or without a Twitter account.
“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in politics and to have a discussion about it,” Twitter CFO Anthony Noto, said a press release. “By bringing the live discussion of the Republican and Democratic national conventions together with CBSN’s live video stream of the proceedings, we believe we’re giving people around the world the best way to experience democracy in action.”
The Republican National Convention is July 18-21 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Democratic National Convention is July 25-28 in Philadelphia.
“We are very pleased that reporting will be so prominently featured on Twitter’s live platform,” said CBS News President David Rhodes.
Details about the partnership—like whether Twitter paid CBS for streaming rights, or will make advertising revenue from the stream—are still being worked out, Recode reports.
Twitter also paid $10 million in a separate partnership with CBS to stream 10 Thursday night NFL games later this fall. And last week the social platform worked with ESPN to live stream coverage of Wimbledon.

When it comes to convention coverage, Comedy Central is also taking a digital stand. The network plans to expand its RNC and DNC content with increased coverage via The Daily Show with Trevor Noah through an on-the-ground activation in Cleveland, and three partnerships with SiriusXM, Amazon and Snapchat.
The initiatives will launch in conjunction with the RNC, and will include The Daily Show SiriusXM simulcast on Comedy Central Radio, The Daily Show launch on the Amazon Alexa voice service, and a three-part special on Snapchat featuring short-form content as Noah and correspondents travel to key political events.
On the ground at the RNC, Comedy Central will “turn this ‘circus-esque’ political season into a fully interactive, comedic and social experience with games and activities for all ages, regardless of party affiliation.”
“The show is expanding its reach and distribution across digital and striking new ground for late night talk shows,” the network said in a press release.
