Twitter has been making moves in the TV department, trying to prove how beneficial the platform is to TV and vice versa. In yet another move signaling how serious it is, Twitter hired Google’s former head of media and entertainment ad sales, Jennifer Prince, to help grow Twitter’s TV business.
Trying to go beyond sponsored tweets, Twitter Amplify and Trending Boxes, Prince’s aim will be to provide even more opportunities for TV marketers to get involved.
Recently, Nielsen came out with a study that found a steady correlation between Twitter chatter and ratings. Twitter will try to capitalize on this seemingly natural relationship to delve deeper into the possibilities of using Twitter to promote TV programming. According to “Variety,” Prince plans on going beyond promoted tweets to make Twitter a destination that can both distribute and enhance promotion of a show, network or movie.
Prince will lead Twitter’s entertainment sales in Santa Monica, Calif., reporting to Robert Pietsch.
