From chilling classic movies like Nosferatu, to NBC’s animated special featuring Saturday Night Live’s David S.Pumpkins, October is a frightening month of programming leading up to Halloween.

TCM’s “Classic Horror” and Syfy’s “31 Days of Halloween” kicked off the month with scary movie marathons, and are going strong all month long.

AMC joins the mix with its annual FearFest, featuring films that include Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead. Normally a two-week event, the network has shortened it this year, and during the first week will run reruns of The Walking Dead as a countdown to the October 22 season eight premiere—which is also the show’s 100th episode.

Animated specials are also getting their spook on. In addition to NBC’s The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special is CBS’s Michael Jackson’s Halloween and of course Fox’s The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXVIII.

Here’s a calendar with our picks of creepy programming to watch this month.
