For Discovery Plus and Travel Channel’s paranormal series, The Holzer Files, Silver Spring, Md.-based AlterEgo borrowed from the style of horror movie trailers to give viewers a good scare.

Ahead of the show’s debut on the recently launched Discovery+, Supervising Producer Ki Yi approached the agency to create a new launch promo as well as a custom graphics package.

To give viewers a true feel of the series, “I used a glitchy style of editing and incorporated sound design to make moments of the promo jump out so the viewer would feel like they were in a horror movie,” said Senior Editor Rory Sheridan.

AlterEgo was inspired by Hans Holzer’s actual case files for the graphic design, and the agency layered archival imagery and b-roll to create the spooky spot.
