TNT‘s popular sci-fi series “Falling Skies,” with its epic storyline of survival in the face of catastrophic alien invasion, seems tailor-made for video game adaptation. And the show’s producers confirmed that notion Wednesday with the announcement that TNT and video game publisher Little Orbit will partner to bring the TV series to multiple video game consoles.

The “Falling Skies” video game will be available on mobile devices around the holidays and appear for various consoles in 2014. The game will tie directly into the series, with a story line woven into its existing universe and voice work by the “Falling Skies” cast.

“Each summer, ‘Falling Skies’ has drawn viewers into its fantastic tale of survival in the face of a catastrophic alien invasion,” said Tricia Melton, SVP of entertainment marketing and branding for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies in statement. “Through the new line of games from Little Orbit, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the ‘Falling Skies’ universe all year round.”

“Falling Skies” will join a small club of TV shows with companion video game pieces that includes AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” and SyFy’s “Defiance.”

Brief Take: Not every show lends itself to the video game universe, but those that do get to expand and extend their vision through transmedia storytelling and engaging content across multiple platforms.
