“Everyone’s got a theory how it started, about Castle Rock’s original sin,” a narrator says in Hulu’s teaser that hones in on the small town that serves as the setting for the psychological horror series from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams.

“Whoever’s sin we’re paying for, we’re trapped in a cycle that stretches back centuries,” the voice says. “There’s blood in every backyard ... inside every house. People say it wasn’t me … it was this place. And the thing is, they’re right.”

Castle Rock is an original story that takes place in King’s multiverse and combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.

The series stars André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Billy Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn.

Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason developed the project for television and serve as executive producers along with Abrams, Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer. It is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Castle Rock premieres July 25 with the first three episodes launching on Hulu.
