“There are two kinds of people in the world: killers and diers. Most of us are diers,” Dr. Murray Siskin (Don Cheadle) tells Jack Gladney (Adam Driver) as the world as they know it falls into chaos amid an “airborne toxic event” in Netflix’s new film, White Noise, based on Don De Lillo’s 1985 novel.
The film, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring his real-life partner Greta Gerwig as Babette Gladney, opened in theaters on Friday, November 25 and starts streaming on Netflix December 30.
Jack and Babette are a couple – both on their fourth marriage – and they share four kids between them with one, Wilder, being theirs. They are happily going about their lives when a train wreck releases a killer toxin into the air, threatening all human life.
“Out of some persistent sense of large-scale ruin, we keep inventing hope,” Jack says.
Besides those three, the film also stars Raffey Cassidy, Sam Nivola, May Nivola, Jodie Turner-Smith, André L. Benjamin, Sam Gold, Carlos Jacott, Lars Eidinger, Francis Jue and Barbara Sukowa.
The trailer is scored to LCD Soundsystem’s “New Body Rhumba,” which is the first song off the film’s soundtrack.
