Olympic phenomenon Michael Phelps executive produced and narrates documentary The Weight of Gold, debuting on HBO July 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Swimmer Phelps is the most decorated athlete in Olympic history, yet when it was all over and he couldn’t see what else was left to accomplish, he considered suicide. In this documentary, Phelps joins many of his fellow Olympic athletes, including mogul skier Jeremy Bloom, track star and bobsledder Lolo Jones, downhill skier Bode Miller, snowboarder Shaun White, figure skater Sasha Cohen, speed skater Apolo Ohno and more, to discuss the mental-health toll the Olympics takes on many athletes.

The Weight of Gold is directed by Brett Rapkin. It’s executive produced by Phelps, Rapkin, Peter Carlisle and Michael O’Hara Lynch plus executive producers for HBO Peter Nelson and Bentley Weiner. It’s produced by Ellyn Vander Wyden and supervising producer, Jonathan Crystal. It’s edited by James Pilott. Simon TaufiQue composed the music.

The documentary will also be available to watch on HBO Max once it makes its linear premiere.
