Jon Snow, Sansa and Arya enter the crypts of Winterfell, walking past the statues of their fallen family members who whisper sentiments of the past in HBO’s teaser for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

Jon walks by the statue of Lyanna Stark, the woman he doesn’t know is his mother, and a feather that Robert Baratheon put in her hands in the series premiere falls to the floor.

“You have to protect him,” she says, echoing the promise she made Ned make to take care of her son by Rhaegar Targaryen.

“You might not have by name but you have my blood,” says the voice of Ned as Jon walks past his statue.

“All this horror that has come to my family. It’s all because I couldn’t love a motherless child,” Catelyn says as Sansa passes statue.

The three children walk down down separate tunnels and meet in a central alcove, where they come face to face with statues of themselves.

A cold mist sweeps into the crypts, freezing the feather and blowing out their torches as Jon and Arya draw their weapons, prepared to face the White Walkers.

The trailer is steep in symbolism that indicates Jon’s hidden identity as both a Stark and Targaryen will play an important role in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

HBO also revealed a premiere date of April 14.
