“Yesterday, today and tomorrow are not consecutive. They are connected in a never-ending circle.”

That line at the beginning of Netflix’s first trailer for German thriller Dark sets the premise for the 10-episode series focusing on the disappearance of two children in the small town of Winden. The story exposes a supernatural twist that ties back to the same town in 1986—turning the concept of time on its head in efforts to uncover the kidnapping.

“The question is not where, or who, or how, but rather when,” Netflix says, and that message is reiterated in the key art.

The streamer describes the series as “a chilling mystery-drama series: an intricate puzzle full of twists. Slick camerawork and realistic performances enhance a textured web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town’s troubled history, whether they know it or not.”

Dark is created by showrunners Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese. It premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, and debuts on Netflix December 1.
