When political fervor hits the South Side of Chicago, the Gallaghers decide to take justice into their own hands. The result is that season nine of the show takes on some of today’s current issues, such as #MeToo and the gender pay gap.

In addition, family patriarch Frank (William H. Macy) remains an unpredictable alcoholic but when he sees financial opportunity in campaigning, he decides to throw his hat in the ring. And eldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum) decides to build on her success with her apartment building and takes an expensive gamble.

Shameless also stars Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Richard Flood and Christian Isaiah.

The show is created by Paul Abbott and produced by Bonanza Productions in association with John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television. It’s executive produced by Wells and Nancy M. Pimental.

Shameless returns for season nine on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
