The CW is returning to Sunday nights this fall for the first time in a decade with two hours of female-focused shows—Supergirl and a reboot of Charmed—that’s intended to serve as powerful counter-programming to NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Supergirl, which stars Melissa Benoist and is executive produced by super-producer Greg Berlanti, will air at 8 p.m. on Sundays, while the new version of Charmed, starring Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, and Madeleine Mantock, will air Sundays at 9 p.m. Supergirl, which is entering its fourth season, has proven to be a utility player for The CW, having come over to the network to run Monday nights at 8 p.m. after its first season aired on CBS.

Pedowitz told reporters at summer press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Monday that its advertisers and CW affiliates were “thrilled that we had grown. They were thrilled that we were making a positive statement about broadcast. The advertisers went out and really supported us.”

Advertising now makes up about half of The CW’s revenues and the return of two hours of original programming on Sunday nights is expected to bring in 15 to 20 percent more, according to the network’s tally after this upfront season. The rest of The CW’s revenue comes mainly from licensing its programming to Netflix.
