In this constantly changing media environment, it’s hard enough to figure out what’s going on right now, but next week at The Conference 2015, PromaxBDA’s diverse line-up of speakers will offer insight on what’s next: what’s next in social media (Periscope or Meerkat?), what’s next in distribution (OTT, SVOD, VR?), what’s next in measurement (Nielsen, Rentrak, set-top box data?) and what’s next in TV media marketing as a whole?

They aren’t easy questions to answer but here are several sessions designed to transport you to the future:

The Conference kicks off on Tuesday afternoon with a series of forward-looking sessions, keynotes and panels that will get you in the right frame of mind for the week ahead.

The power trio of Fox’s Lauren Bernard, Bravo and Oxygen’s Ellen Stone and Hulu’s Jenny Wall take to the stage at 3 pm PT to take on the question of “What’s next?” particularly when it comes to targeting, capturing and converting highly fragmented audiences.

One of TV’s top producers, Greg Berlanti, gets on stage at 3:45 pm to talk about how he creates hit TV shows with another of the industry’s most forward-thinking leaders, Lisa Gregorian, president and CMO of Warner Bros. Television Group, and former PromaxBDA co-chair.

Doug Herzog, president of the newly formed Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, will be interviewed by CNN’s Bill Weir at 5 p.m. Herzog is a cable vet, having gotten his start at MTV and moving on to Comedy Central, Fox Broadcasting and USA Network. He’s been overseeing Comedy Central since 2004, and just added MTV, VH1 and TV Land to his purview in April. Herzog has no fear of what’s next, in fact, he’s staying one step ahead of it.

“What gets me to sleep peacefully at night is that content is the center of the universe. It’s the thing from which all these other things exist. That’s what we do and if we continue to do it in the most compelling way possible, we’ll be successful,” Herzog told Brief.

Finally, Tuesday wraps up with stand-up comedy from Tig Notaro, who lives on the edge of what’s next.

“I think it’s a really good thing to put yourself on the other side of anything, just see things from a different angle … I also kind of realized at a point in my career that no one performance or action or anything is going to make or break my career. I think it’s all just steps forward,” she told Brief.

Wednesday morning kicks off with more of the same.

At 9 am, Viacom’s Matthew Evans, NBCU’s Evan Shapiro, and CBS’ Christy Tanner will chat about the “revolution in content delivery” that we’re all living through right now.

Shapiro asked Brief the quintessential question: “‘Is it necessary to destroy the linear pay-TV ecosystem to develop new products that also satisfy an OTT consumer?’ These things are not mutually exclusive.”

Also at 9 am, Red Bee’s Charlie Mawer will offer some tips on how to “Future-Proof Your Rebrand.”

For example, “understanding the opportunities that come with taking the principles of UX and UI design and applying them to linear broadcasting really helps with being innovative in a space that has become cosily familiar,” Mawer told Brief.

You may have to send your coworker in with a video camera so you can catch both of these don’t-miss sessions.

At 10 am, cable veteran Lauren Zalaznik will chat with Buzzfeed’s Ze Frank on what’s next, and those are two people who very well may know.

Friend of PromaxBDA Lee Hunt returns to offer his popular session, New Best Practices, at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. It’s a jam-packed hour that looks back in order to look forward.

Thursday keeps up the pace with sessions from some of social’s top brands, including Pinterest at 11:15 am and Twitter at 12:15 pm.

At 3:30 pm, we take a dive into one of the technologies that feels most like what we expected from the future (other than the jet packs we were promised): Virtual reality. Experts from Blackthorn Media, Havas Media and Surreal get together to chat about how brands can expect to use this new technology to grab viewer and consumer interest.

Join us to hear all about what’s next—and offer some thoughts of your own—at PromaxBDA The Conference 2015 June 9-11 at the J.W. Marriott LA Live.
