Fabricated or not - it doesn’t matter. Fans of the ‘90s are getting excited for Labor Day’s debut of The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story on Lifetime.
The TV movie is based on a book written by Dustin Diamond (Screech), and many members of the cast have slammed both the book and movie because of what they say is an inaccurate representation of the show. Lifetime’s official trailer for the Sept. 1 debut does seem to get a few things right, however. The kids are all wearing their ‘90s best, neon colors make their mark on the show’s set and Zack Morris gets to do his signature “time out.”
In honor of Zach and the crew coming back to TV (in their own way), Brief looks back on some of Saved by the Bell’s promos and clips from its original run.
Part of Saved by the Bell’s cast actually first appeared on the sitcom Good Morning Miss Bliss, which aired in the late 1980s before the spinoff brought Zack, Screech and Lisa to the new show and new school.
In the above promo from 1993, TBS combines Zack Morris love with Charles in Charge, even creating a jingle for the two characters.
Its syndication run still highlighted its signature ‘90s style - neon colors, graphics with brightly colored shapes and a whole lot of Zack and Slater.
Even though The College Years were just around the corner, their graduation was still an event for TV to look forward to. The NBC promo above goes from an emotional end of high school to the group’s semi-adulthood at college.
And lastly, in case you can’t wait for Sept. 1 for more Saved by the Bell action, check out The Fine Bros.’ reaction video where teens watch the original show and share their thoughts, featuring Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). Some had heard of the show, some had seen all the reruns, but most had never seen an episode. All in all, they love that theme song - and Kelly Kapowski.
