Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback returns to HBO’s Sunday night lineup in a few short days. In the sitcom revamp, her character gets cast as a “neurotic older sitcom actress” in a faux HBO show. The channel tie-in brings plenty of meta network references, including an almost-reference to HBO’s old tagline “It’s not TV. Its HBO.”
To welcome back The Comeback among the ranks of Sunday night greats, below are just a few of the series HBO fans have loved over the years.
The Comeback Trailer 2014:
Silicon Valley: Misfits make an app and try to fit in.
Eastbound and Down: Kenny Powers rises from the ashes for a prophetic fourth season.
Girls: The season finale highlights each character’s assets, and more importantly, their flaws.
Entourage: The final season of the Hollywood series based on Mark Wahlberg’s early years had everyone on edge, fans and characters alike.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Larry David stomps through New York for the season-eight tease of his show, ending with a line that sums up his character succinctly: “What, are you people nuts?”
The Flight of the Conchords: Bret and Jemaine, with the help of their manager, Murray, hype the release of the series on DVD through homemade music videos and fan-made art.
