Stephen Colbert has been a one-man promoting machine for the last few months, posting funny videos and sketches leading up to his CBS debut.

Kicking off Sept. 8, Colbert changes tunes from faux conservative pundit on Comedy Central to late-night talk show host on CBS. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been creating a lot of buzz among TV fans, so take a look at how that started this summer:

The Colbeard: First, Colbert made a very big deal out of the shaving of his epic beard, grown out over a summer of putting his show together and chronicling the process in his podcast.

The theme song: Colbert may not have the best ear for music (thank goodness for band leader Jon Batiste) but his theme song attempt isn’t terrible. It’s almost catchy.

The Trump sketch: Colbert impersonates a Trump-like character to announce that he is still hosting The Late Show on CBS, while also attacking various groups in true Trump form.

The equality response: In response to June’s nationwide gay marriage ruling, Colbert made a response video that was seen more than 1 million times - and was one of the first politics-related events that fans got to see the real Colbert.

The lunch break: Colbert invited fans to share their lunches with him this July, but a relaxing series of lunches went badly fast.

The actual promos: And then came CBS’ actual promos for Colbert’s debut, airing across platforms with Colbert across a white backdrop in simple but funny 30-second spots.

To really take it back, also check out Colbert’s episode over at Colbert Report announcing David Letterman’s retirement: “I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair.”
