This year’s Emmy Awards host, Andy Samberg, falls completely in line with hosts of Emmys past so far, in that he is an upbeat, endearing comedian who has no problem poking fun at himself as well as perhaps the awards show itself.

In this year’s Emmys promos, Samberg has let viewers in on “the seven words Andy can say on TV” and lately even came up with his own Emmy hashtag suggestions.

Samberg is the latest of a string of friendly comedian types to host the awards show, following acts like fellow SNL alum Seth Meyers, Neil Patrick Harris, Jimmy Kimmel, Jane Lynch and Jimmy Fallon. Before this Sunday’s Emmy Awards show, take a look once again at previous hosts and how they approached the promotion side of things.

2015: Fingers crossed half of these hashtags have a good reason to be used during Emmy night.

2014: Seth Meyers managed to list several of the year’s top nominees while also embedding himself as a knowledgeable host in his series of spots.

2013: America’s favorite host Neil Patrick Harris combined his magical background with his hosting know-how for his 2013 gig.

2012: The 64th Primetime Emmys went back to focus a little bit more on the star-studded night that the Oscars is known for, steering away from host Jimmy Kimmel in promotion.

2011: “Captain” Jane Lynch combined her own hosting power with awards shows’ historical strategy of showing the viewers the massive list of stars who could show up on “TV’s biggest night.”

2010: Jimmy Fallon’s opening number at the 2010 Emmy Awards show, when he was still Late Night’s host, shows exactly why he was chosen as host that year. He pokes fun at himself, his show, the network itself - even NBC’s late-night problems, which were very fresh at the time.

Bonus: See Conan O’Brien’s very own hosting night only a few years prior, where he put the show’s directors to the test.
