TBS has renewed its two new comedies, People of Earth, starring former Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac, and Search Party, starring Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat. The two shows join six other comedies that TBS has renewed this year: Angie Tribeca, starring Rashida Jones; new late-night addition Full Frontal with Samantha Bee; The Detour and Wrecked.

TBS also airs late-night talk show Conan, starring Conan O’Brien, and American Dad!, an animated off-net sitcom from Twentieth Television.

“Twelve months ago we set out to reimagine the TBS brand and its place in the TV landscape. To end 2016 with all six shows returning is humbling,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, in a statement. “The amazing teams behind People of Earth and Search Party have created complex, funny characters and crafted truly distinctive stories. Renewing both shows is the perfect end to a transformative year for TBS.”

Search Party offered viewers its entire first season during Thanksgiving week with more than 1.1 million viewers on average watching per episode across platforms. The show continues to be available on demand and on the Watch TBS app.

People of Earth, about a group of people who have been abducted by clients who have formed a support group to talk about it, premiered on Halloween night and has gone on to be ranked among basic cable’s top-ten new comedies, reaching an average of 4.3 million viewers per episode across all platforms.

People of Earth comes from Greg Daniels, creator of The Office, and Conan O’Brien and was created by David Jenkins.

TBS launched its new comedy strategy nearly a year ago, when it debuted Angie Tribeca in a 25-hour “binge-a-thon.” In February, the network premiered Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, starring the veteran Daily Show correspondent. In March, the network opened The Detour, created by Bee’s husband and fellow Daily Show vet Jason Jones. Finally, Wrecked, about a group of airline passengers stranded on an island, premiered last summer.

The Detour returns to TBS in February, with season three of Angie Tribeca coming back in the spring, followed by the sophomore seasons of Wrecked and Search Party this summer. People of Earth will return later next year.

The Guest Book, a new comedy anthology seires, will premiere on TBS in 2017.
