TBS will air the six original ‘Star Wars’ movies on Thursday, May 4—in a salute to the fan slogan “May the Fourth be With You” which recognizes the date as “Star Wars Day.”
The lineup starts at 6:40 a.m. and will play chronologically for more than 16 hours.
“Turner is able to put together a Star Wars marathon thanks to licensing agreements announced in September with The Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Fox,” TBS said in a statement.
The estimated $250 million licensing agreement made TNT and TBS the TV home for the film franchise, which includes rights to the original six films, as well as the network premiere the recent blockbusters Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which hits theaters on December 15, and the following two yet-to-be-released Star Wars films.
