Christopher Meloni plays Nick Sax, a cynical ex-cop turned hit man who is the only person who can see a relentlessly positive blue-winged animated horse in Syfy’s upcoming series Happy!
Yet now viewers can see the same horse in their own living room, or wherever they go, with the network’s augmented reality app released for iPhone and Android on Wednesday, ahead of the show’s December 6 premiere.
Featuring the voice of Patton Oswalt, who voices Happy in the show, the AR app built by Syfy Wire overlays the physical world with the animated character as he answers questions and performs tricks.
Syfy also launched a new promo for the show, featuring Nick Sax and Happy in a strip club:
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the series is set in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal.
“It’s the grittiest, early ‘70s grindhouse corrupt cop movie with an adorable Disney character in it,” Oswalt said at NBCUniversal’s Holiday Press Junket.
The show certainly doesn’t shy away from gore—but that’s okay because it’s cartoon gore.
“That’s what makes the violence in it a bit more palatable,” said Meloni.
“It’s Wile E. Coyote,” added Oswalt.
The dark comedy leans into the juxtaposition of a corrupt, realistic world and a fun colorful playground that defies the laws of logic.
“It’s going to be a crazy ride,” Meloni said, “but it’s all a dream, all make believe.”
