HBO’s “Game of Thrones” exhibit kicks off today in Austin with none other than a virtual 700-foot wall of ice.
Oculus Rift headsets, experiential agency Relevant and VFX house Framestore teamed up for the project that takes “Thrones” fans on a virtual journey to the top of the wall of ice for a spectacular (virtual) view. Exhibit attendees will start with an Oculus Rift headset and earphones, and begin the journey at Castle Black, near The Wall, a defensive structure against certain dangerous outsiders. After rising up 700 feet, each person can walk along the “wall” to see the view:

The virtual experience is part of a larger traveling exhibit by “Game of Thrones,” Austin being its latest stop on the tour. The free exhibit also features costumes, props (including weapons from the show) and a photo op with the Iron Throne. HBO and HBO GO are also interacting online using #GOTExhibit. Next stops for the exhibit are Rio de Janeiro, Oslo, Toronto, Belfast and Vancouver.
Season 4 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” premieres April 6.
