“I’m not looking for super friends,” Luke Cage (Mike Colter) says over a sushi dinner.
Yet that’s apparently what he’s got as he, along with Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) band together as “the war for New York is here.”
Netflix’s final trailer for Marvel’s The Defenders focuses on the bond forming between the reluctant team as they fight to save the city from “The Hand”—a criminal organization featured in Daredevil.
Complete with quippy lines and eye rolls, the series follows Netflix’s portrayal of the gritty, flawed side of being a superhero, with each character burdened with his or her own baggage and personal challenges.
“Jesus, am I only one left who doesn’t know karate?” Jessica Jones asks after a battle.
Marvel’s The Defenders premieres August 18 on Netflix, followed by The Punisher slated for later in 2017.
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are expected to return in 2018, with Iron Fist on the horizon.
The series is executive produced by Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb, and is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
