In celebration of Gay Pride Month, Super Deluxe is featuring four-part documentary Bayard & Me, which highlights the lengths to which one couple went to legally protect their union in the 1980s.

The story focuses on openly gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, best known for organizing the March on Washington and advising Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At a time when gay marriage was inconceivable, he worked around the system by adopting his partner Walter Naegle.

The documentary premiered at Sundance in January, will be shown at Outfest in July, and has been submitted for an Oscar in this year’s Documentary Short Subject category. Bayard & Me is directed by Matt Wolf (It’s Me, Hilary, The Face of AIDS).

Super Deluxe is also planning a live programming block around the Pride Month theme of “Resist.”

The “socio-political variety show” will air on June 26, from 4 - 5:30 p.m., with resistance-themed shorts, mini games, viewer-driven protests, and surprise guests dropping in throughout. It will be simulcast on Facebook, YouTube, and superdeluxe.com/resist.

Proceeds will be donated to the It Gets Better Project, a nonprofit founded by Dan Savage that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world.
