Stun Creative is branching out into original content production with the launch of a new division called Stun Originals, the company announced Monday.

Veteran TV programming exec Maria Crenna has been tapped to head up the new division.

Crenna most recently served as president of Mandeville Television. Her title at the new venture will be President Stun Originals.

“Stun Originals will make a strong push into television programming and content and there is no more experienced person to lead this charge than Maria,” said Brad Roth, partner at Stun Creative. “She’s a top player in this business and has the perfect experience to make this new content division a winner. We’re excited to have her onboard.”

Before Mandeville, Crenna served as EVP of CBS Paramount Network Television, the main production arm of what is now CBS Television Studios. At CBS Paramount she oversaw the the development and production of series such as “Criminal Minds,” “Medium,” and “NCIS.” As EVP of CBS Productions—as the studio was known until 2006—she helped launch the original “CSI.” Crenna arrived at CBS from Warner Bros. Television, where as SVP of Comedy Development she worked on bringing both “Friends” and “The Drew Carey Show” to air.

Crenna will lead Stun Originals in developing original comedy programming, while expanding Stun’s work in scripted drama, unscripted, and limited event series for broadcast, cable, and digital.

“Stun Originals greatest strength is its independence,” Crenna said Monday. “It is poised to take advantage of the changing marketplace. As an independent, we can be entrepreneurial about how we approach development and production. Our goal is to harness the dynamic creative energy that drives Stun’s core business to create a supportive, engaged and collaborative development environment for content creators. I’m thrilled to be working with the Stun Creative team.”
